Laura HooperI met the very lovely Laura Hooper (via email and snail-mail) a few years ago when I was searching for uniquely beautiful calligraphy for our wedding invitation clientele.  Laura has hundreds of calligraphy styles – each of them a work of art.  Her service is top-notch and her professionalism is unmatched.  And, I love how her business has grown organically into the nationally-recognized company of today.  Kudos Laura!

What is your favorite thing about weddings?

I think it is definitely the excitement of the brides (and grooms) that contact me. They are always so hopeful about the future and it’s really nice to see that, especially now.

What is your best tip for time management?

Not to procrastinate! And anyone who knows me knows I am a major procrastinator in “real life” but when it comes to my work, I like to get started on every project as soon as I can.  I am rarely ever delayed on an order because of it. Also, I group “like things” together so I will work on all my maps and invitations one day, and then the rest of the week work on calligraphy, so that I am not switching back and forth all the time between projects. It saves time for me at least to do things this way.

What is your little marketing secret?

Starting my blog was definitely a good decision that positively increased traffic to my site, and has really helped get the word out about my products, and I’ve “met” so many new people online and wonderful colleagues now because of it.  It has really generated attention and increased the exposure of Laura Hooper Calligraphy.

What is the funnest trend you are seeing in the industry?

Right now I really love the maps, and all the different things people are doing with them. We’ve done maps for everything from Save the Dates, Invitations, Thank You Notes, and after the wedding for New Homes. My clients also like to take icons from their maps and use them on the Table Cards, Escort Cards, and Menus.

If you were starting your business all over again, what would you have done differently?

I wouldn’t do anything differently, everything has come together really perfectly. I started this business, in college, part time and it has grown to a full-time operation in such a short period of time. I am very grateful to have had the success I’ve had in this industry.

Thanks Laura!
